ARConnect - Guided Tours

Lead Design, UX, UI

ARConnect is the world’s first scalable AR application that connects directly with digital twins. Guided Tours allows customers to curate an AR experience and guide users through that experience in the real world.
Defining the challenge

Our customers needed a way to effortlessly curate an AR experience for their users. AR is an unfamiliar technology for most of the public, so this needed to be as simple as possible despite some steep technical limitations.

Using Wayfinding on App in Mall
Solution

We designed a seamless flow from our Creator Studio into ARConnect in a few simple steps:
1. Curate your tour in the Creator Studio by adding layers of content
2. Place wayfinding points in your scan
3. Order these points into different stops for your guided tour
4.Head to your location and experience your digital content in the real world

Results
"Being able to view our data onsite via an aligned Digital Twin has opened up new opportunities for us to present to our clients."

- CEO, Land Surveys
"[This has] allowed us to ‘open up’ dozens of buildings across Melbourne, using immersive technologies to engage audiences with audio-visual content embedded throughout virtual spaces."

– A.C, Open House Melbourne
"We’ve had thousands of students through our Augmented Reality learning modules, thanks to ARConnect."

Process: research

The nature of working on new tech is that you need to be creative in your research. Looking at other applications who used more traditional wayfinding was quite helpful.

Traditional Wayfinding Research
Flows

Taking learnings from traditional wayfinding, I mapped out the flows for a user in platform, as well as the flows for the end experience in app, working closely with product and developers to ensure that any technical limitations were understood and dealt with.

Lo-fi wires

Next I sketched out and placed lo-fi wires into the flows. This step can be quite iterative - working closely with dev and product to ensure everyone was aligned and pinpoint any potential issues.

Prototype & Testing

Prototyping and getting the team to test was invaluable for locating pain points and addressing any issues before finalising and launching.
